Who ever said being a stay-at-home mom was easy? Answer: the person who never did it. As part of this prestigious group, it is a true blessing but let's be honest; it's not always fun and many can become unhappy. It can get monotonous, overwhelming, and perhaps even annoying. This is part of the role and it's easy to lose your true self. Take the good with the bad, recognize it, accept it, and find ways to become happier in your role as a stay-at-home mom.

Like any job, there will be pros and cons. Losing your identity is easy if you are constantly taking care of others and their needs. Don't fall prey to becoming the unhappy mommy. Here are some tips for a healthier and happier you.

1. Take time out for yourself. We all need time to ourselves to regroup, reenergize, and maintain focus. Go out with the girls, do a spa day, relax at a coffee shop, or do whatever your favorite thing is. It is essential to take some time out away from the monotony of domestic life.

2. Work from home to make extra money. You might have had a career at one point and miss that second income. There are plenty of home based businesses out there. This is a great way to contribute to the household finances or just buy yourself something nice. Making that extra income provides a feeling of importance and will revitalize your role at home.

3. Exercise! This is an activity we should all be doing for ourselves regardless of who we are. Take the stroller out for 10,15, or 20 minutes every day. Can't keep your eyes off the television? Do some push-ups, sit-ups or jog in place for the duration of the show.

4. Make yourself presentable. I don't mean wear your Sunday best or a suit around the house but dress like you care. When you look good, you feel good. Just because you're at home doesn't mean you should be unkempt and messy.

5. Write in a journal. Sometimes we can't or choose not to share our deepest thoughts and feelings with others. Writing in a journal is therapeutic.

6. Keep your dreams and goals alive! Write them down. This should be separate from your journal. Read them every day to remind yourself of who you are, what's important to you, and what you want out of life. You can create that dream into reality.

7. Finally - give yourself a break. So what if a load of laundry couldn't be done today or you missed a spot on the floor. You're only human. Be kind to yourself and forgive.

Life as a stay-at-home mom can be tedious and some of us might even classify ourselves as an unhappy one. But it does not have to be that way. Connect with your true self, revitalize your role at home, be thankful for what you have and you will find satisfaction with yourself and your job as a stay-at-home mom. You owe it to yourself, your happiness, and to your beautiful family.

Much love and happiness
